ARENA MOTORCROSS ON EASTER SATURDAY – UNDER LIGHTS
Mildura Motor Cycle Club will conduct the 2017 “KING OF THE MURRAY” Arena Motorcross event as part of the Mildura “Easter Power Sports Promotion” at its Olympic Park facility on Saturday, with gates set to open at 4:30pm and Racing to begin at 6:00pm.
This event, which has now been running for more than 30 years, is a keystone event in the massive Easter calendar of wonderful Motorsports events, which makes Mildura the “Motorsports Capital of Australia,” with so much activity staged over the whole weekend at four different Sunraysia motorsports locations.
The “King of the Murray” will be contested by Open “expert” class as well as Open “Clubman” with Senior and Junior Quads and a Women’s division, some Junior 9 to 12 years, 65cc machines, some 12 to Under 16, 85cc, 2 stroke and 150cc, 4 stroke for standard and big wheels as well as 13 to Under 16, 100cc to 125cc, 2 stroke and 250cc, 4 stroke.
The main volume of entries has been in the two premier classes, the Open Expert and Open Clubman classes, indicating that the Mildura Club has got the popular classes right for this annual competition.
Visiting riders will dominate both classes with some well known South Australian and Victorian “A” Grade riders set to challenge the two local based stars in Nathan Trigg and Ryan Grayling from Ouyen. Riders who will play a part in the hot action include the very fast and classy, Lewis Wood, from Bacchus Marsh, Sam Martin from Langwarrin and SA’s Josh Melis, from Wallaroo.
Joining the strong top flight will be Caleb Goullett and Karl Claridge from Diggers Rest and Adam Coles from Geelong making up a very handy group and nearly a full grid to contest the major events.
Regular lady Hattah Desert Racer, Alesha Goullet along with Kiara Ellis, from Modbury, will probably have to contest amongst the blokes unless there are sufficient ladies to make a separate class. Olympic Park would like to see an individual class for the girls, but needs enough entries to make the class.
Glen Pfieffer from Burwood and Liam Hildebrand from Portland, along with Jason Hayes make up a strong group contesting amongst more than a dozen riders in the “Clubman” class.
Sufficient Quads will see a class in the seniors while a couple more are needed to set the Juniors alight.
Olympic Park gates will open at 4:30pm, opening just a half hour after Riders Sign On and Scrutineering has commenced.
Practice for all riders will commence at 4:45pm and go until 5:30pm, just giving Track staff enough time for the track to be re-groomed in time for a start of Racing at 6:00pm sharp.
Racing will continue over at least two rounds until a break for the sun and then at least two more rounds are scheduled before the finals are run, which should conclude around 9:30 to 9:45, so as patrons can get down to Etiwanda Avenue to the Mildura Ski Club early morning in time for the start of the famous “Mildura 100” Ski Race, which is the major highlight of the Mildura “Easter Power Sports Promotion”.
