MONSON CLAIMS ANOTHER CARMES TROPHY

wazza 2 Sunraysia sidecar Icon Warren Monson, who now lives in Melbourne, with his South Australian passenger Matt Morgan snatched his third victory in the 39th annual Noddy Riordan’s Paint and Panel Curley Carmes Sidecar spectacular which ended in spectacular circumstances at Mildura’s Olympic Park on Saturday night.

Monson got a flying start in the final but the lead see-sawed between him and Queenslander Brodie Cohen and Simon Cohrs with World Champions Darrin Treloar and Blake Cox close behind. Towards the end of the race Cohen just got to the front again when he lost it and went sideways on the river end bend with Monson making contact as he had nowhere to go. The ambulance was called as Cohen’s passenger Simon Cohrs injured his hand in the crash(below). The race was declared with Monson first, Treloar second after winning all four of his heats and Trent Headland and Daz Whetstone a impressive third. At the end of 20 heats Treloar led the way with 15 points ahead of Townsville based rider Brock Cohen/Simon Cohrs with 14 points and Warren Monson/ Matt Morgan on 11 points. Monson had a hiccup earlier in the night when he pulled to the infield and did not finish in one of his heats after a battery failure. Local riders Clint Mayes/Sean Coleby were just squeezed out of the B final by Trent Headland and Daz Whetstone when both finished on eight points. Headland was excluded in race two but he won two of his other heats and then was the surprise winner of the B Final over Mildura’s Dad’s Army combination of Neal Hancock/Brendan Johnson with third going to South Australia’s Klae Hobbs/Liam Cox. Mildura sidecar riders Byron Gates/Mick O’Loughlin had finished with 10 points but did not finish the B Final.
