About forty participants are expected to tackle the social journey, with most riders taking to dirt bikes, to ride through the desert country south of Mildura, some choosing to ride road bikes using the bitumen and some vehicular support teams who will carry the goods and chattels, like changes of clothing and sundry spares for the machines, to Rainbow.

Trail riding has been a massive part of the Mildura Club over many years, with a specialized group doing a traverse of the Simpson Desert back in 1988 to celebrate 200 years of Australian settlement and many of the riders who took that journey will line up again for the Rainbow ride, as most of them have done for many years.

There is not one rider who has participated in all twenty five rides, as family commitments and work requirements have had an impact, but there are some who have made the trip more than twenty times over the years.

The ride to Rainbow takes the dirt group through the red sand of the “Sunset Country” and onwards through the “Big Desert” and skirting the “Wyperfield National Park” and “Lake Albacutya”, coming into the wheat town of Rainbow from the east.

The road groups enjoy their trip south through Ouyen and Patchewollock, to Hopetoun and on to Rainbow arriving from the north.

A wonderful social occasion is held at the Rainbow pub on the Saturday night, with members booking the venue totally overnight, making ready for the return journey back to Mildura, usually by a slightly different route on the Sunday.

Energy for the continuation of the ride comes from a core group of Life members of the Club, with Peter Oliver, Craig Baker, Gary Watt, Sy Nunan, Mal Seymour and Jock Macleod providing much of the organizational effort required to harness the group.

The ride will take place over the first weekend of September as it always does.

The rally attracts riders from all over Australia. This year the Mildura MCC is conducting a classic speedway as part of the festivities of the weekend.

The Classic speedway meeting will be run on Saturday afternoon from 1pm there will be sashes for all class placings. Sign on from 11am machine examination 11am to 12.30pm Racing from 1pm.  NO LATE ENTRIES

Presentation will be in the clubrooms directly after the meting followed by a BBQ.

The meeting will be conducted as a club day and is free to the public, all entrants who are not members of the Mildura MCC will need to become members of the club and your entry will entitle you to membership, and your membership will be included in your entry fee for the day.

One day licenses will be available on the day at a cost of $45  but you will need to notify the club if you need a one day license on your entry form. In order to get a one day license you will have to produce proof of current Ambulance fund membership. No ambulance cover, no license, no ride.

Classes there are classes that are divided up into machinery category and riders age. So you could become the winter sun champion in your class and get a pretty sash.

Classes will depend on entries, 4 bikes per class will constitute a class, if there are insufficient numbers to constitute a class some maybe combined in order to give everyone a ride.

You may enter as many classes that you are eligible and ride as many bikes as you have but the cost is $35 per entry plus $10 per extra class (ie if you are riding in 2 classes it will cost you $45)

• Sidecars

All riders and mechanics will comply with the rule and regulations of motorcycling Australia.

• Evo All upright engines – Under 40
• Evo All upright engines – Over 40
• Modern  – Practice class only no sashes

Sidecars

-    British, European and American under 1000cc
-    British, European and American over 1000cc
-    2 stroke
-    Japanese 750 ( 750cc Honda’s etc)
-    Japanese over 750cc 2 valve engines
-    Evo all engines with 2 valves per cylinder ( Z900, Suzuki’s etc)
-    Modern Sidecar practice class only no sashes

An excellent line up is guaranteed with major Prize money offered to get riders to Mildura 3 weeks after the Australian Championships which will be held in Newcastle over the Easter weekend.

Mildura Club officials have looked hard and long to before deciding that the ANZAC night meeting does not clash with any other speedway event.

Gillman has the Mick Headland / Paul Waters Benefit night on next Saturday, 13^th March and then it is up to Broken Hill for a big Sidecar night in Broken Hill on Saturday 20^th March.

The Australian Titles follow those meetings and the ANZAC weekend is the best fit to re-run the Coca-Cola Sidecar Spectacular.

The Club believes that speedway patrons all around Australia EXPECT us to run the “Speccy”, as it is the longest running speedway event outside of a Title event in Australia.

A normal junior program will be conducted before the Speccy and gates will open at the regular time of 5:00pm.

Gate prices will remain at $20 for Adults, $15 for Children – aged between 12 and Under 16 and Families will be admitted for $55.

Broken Hill Club is working hard to re-establish bikes at the great venue, which hosted the 1994 Australian Sidecar Championships so well.
